Big Week

Nolan had quite a big week. It started out last Sunday when we decided to give him rice cereal for the first time. He seems so interested in our food, so we thought at 4 months he could try cereal and he did great. He was a little confused at first, but is starting to get the hang of it. On Sunday he also rolled from his belly to his back. This is big for him considering he absolutely hates to be on his belly and is never on his belly. He also fell asleep on his own in the crib that night, but of course that didn't last the rest of the week! On Monday the 21st he turned 4 months old, and is really starting to get fun. He loves to play with his toys and teething rings. Another thing we noticed this week is that he is kind of starting to take strange and is taking longer to warm up with others. He definitely has eyes for mommy and daddy. Then of course there was his first Christmas. He survived the craziness at the Purpur house on Christmas Eve and we enjoyed a nice quiet Christmas Day with Danny's family. Unfortunately he also spent his first Christmas with a fever and cold. My poor peanut had a rough few nights with sleep and breathing, but is feeling lots better. I think all the (many, many) gifts he got cheered him up! One last thing to report is that I caught him on Saturday sitting up on his own!! We sit him up in his boppy pillow a lot and I looked over at him to see that he pulled himself up to the sitting position to grab and toy and sat there and played with it. We were so proud! He is growing too fast.

First Hockey Game!

Nolan with his Great Uncle Cliff
Nolan with my cousin Jordan. Notice that Nolan
was supporting Central by wearing his Redskins shirt!

Out to lunch for Daddy's birthday. Nolan was flirting with the waitress!

Nolan attended his first hockey game on Friday night (12-18) at the REA. We went to watch Central play Apple Valley, and of course to watch my Cousin Casey who plays for Central. He was so good and just stared down at the ice and watched very intently. I am glad it was entertaining for him! Saturday was a busy day for us. It was Danny's birthday so we went to lunch, then went to watch Central's 3rd period, then went to my little cousin Luc's hockey game, then went to Dan's parent's for dinner. Nolan was so good and flexible! Hope everyone is well. Merry Christmas!

My sick boys : (

This past week has been a little up and down. Nolan did enjoy his first Thanksgiving and had lots of fun and was entertained by many family members. He did really good all day, but by about 6 he had had enough and was pretty wore out by all the stimulation. Along with with his first Thanksgiving came his first sickness. He got the diarrhea bug that was going around daycare. He did not seem too bothered by it, except that it woke him up during the night...which meant us too! To top it off he got his first cold a few days later. My poor little man was so congested that he had a hard time sleeping, so he was kind of a crabby boy for a few days. I worked 3-11 all week so I was glad to be home with him while he was sick, but I was sure exhausted by the end of the week. He did get lots of Grandma time too this week. My mom came over to watch Nolan from the time I went to work till Danny came home, and Priscilla came over Monday and Wednesday night while Dan had curling and was out of town for work. Another new thing this past week was that I tried switching Nolan to a milk based formula that was lactose free to try to ween him off the soy formula. I am so happy to say that he liked it and does not seem fussy from the switch!
Our week ended with even more Grandma time for Nolan while I brought Danny to the ER in the middle of the night on Thursday. He woke up with bad chest pain and some tingling in his left arm. He thought at first it was really bad heart burn, but being the worry wart I am we called my mom over at 2AM and I took Dan in. I knew he was in a lot of pain because he actually went to the ER and I drove! I never drive! They took some tests and he was finally diagnosed with pericarditits, which is inflammation of the sac surrounding the heart. They think it was caused by a virus. Dan was admitted to the hospital for the day for some monitoring and to get an ultrasound on his heart to confirm the diagnosis and to make sure there wasn't anything else wrong with his heart. He is doing great and should be back to 100% within a week or two. He just has to take anti-inflammatories to keep the inflammation down and to help with the pain, and of course he is suppose to take it easy. He sure got us all worried, but I am so thankful it wasn't anything worse...although I was really hoping for a diagnosis of heartburn! To top off the week, I woke up the next night to Bauer throwing up. Not sure what was going on with him but he seems to be all better now too! My boys sure have given me a run for my money this week, but things are looking up! Nolan goes back to daycare this week and I get to go back to the day shift at work. Enjoy more Nolan pics.

3 Months and Daycare update!

First time in his saucer and he loved it!

Happy to be 3 Months Old!

Nolan decided he wanted to watch TV at 4 am rather than go back to sleep!

Nolan had a very busy week at daycare! For the most part he did very good. His first day was pretty tough, but he had lots to get used to. The rest of the week got better and I think he figured out his new routine. Luckily for us Nolan's exhaustion from daycare gave us a few uninterrupted nights. Monday and Tuesday nights he slept over 12 hours straight! He was still sleeping when I left for work, so I was sad I couldn't say goodbye to him, but I think it was easier for me that way. I had no idea how hard it would be to go back to work, and how much I would miss him! Nolan also made his first art project at daycare this week. He made a turkey made out of his hands and foot. I was so excited to get it, and even though I know he didn't do much to make it I was still so proud of him! It turned out so great. And as noted in the title, Nolan did turn 3 months on Saturday. Our little peanut is right on track and started wearing his 3-6 months clothes last week. I am pretty sure he won't be one of those kids that ever wears bigger sizes for his age! For Nolan's first Thanksgiving we will be starting out at my mom's house then off to Danny's parent's house and we are looking forward to it. Nolan will also get to meet some family members on both sides, so he will have a pretty big day too! Hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving!

Still cute even with a little spit up on his shirt

At the park with his cousins. Luc, Nolan, Kyler, Rylan, McCain and Brody

Just like Dad!

Off to work and daycare :(

My first band aids
I really like to stand!

Just talking to Daddy

I cannot believe my maternity leave is coming to an end. Everyone told me it would go by fast, but I had no idea how fast! It will be very hard not being with Nolan all day, but it will be good for both of us. I am very thankful to be bringing him to my aunt Holly's for daycare. At least I know he is in good hands and will be loved very much! I think he will have fun watching all the other kids play and he will have fun interacting with them too. On our last post I said that Nolan was not taking his Prevacid very well, but I am happy to say that he has learned to like it and is now taking it very well! So this means he is spitting up less and is not as fussy after feedings. Woohoo! Our little man is still as smiley and talkative as ever. He is getting louder and I think he is figuring out that it is him that is making those noises. We have to laugh at him though, because he has started to fake cry. He was whining because he was hungry while Danny was holding him and I looked at him and held his bottle and kind of made fun of his crying and then he began to laugh and cry at the same time. I wish we could have taped it because it was so funny! I guess you had to be there. My poor man also got his first bandaids the other day. His horrible mother cut him while cutting his fingernails and made him bleed. We just got a new nail clipper and it was so sharp. I felt so bad, but it did not even phase him. I had to put band aids on because it would not quit bleeding and it got all over his outfit. It looked a lot worse than it really was.

Trick or Treat!

For Halloween Nolan was the cutest peapod there ever was, but was not a fan of the costume. He did not have enough room to kick his little legs around in there, but had a good day overall! To update from the last post, we did try Nutramigen over the weekend, but Nolan wanted nothing to do with it! He is pretty stubborn and set in his ways, and now is apparently a picky eater too. I don't blame him though, the stuff does not smell very good at all! I mixed it with his soy formula and he still didn't really drink it. Finally by Sunday I gave him his regular bottle again so he wouldn't starve. As expensive as the formula is, I was really hoping he would like so he would feel better. So now we are trying Prevacid for his acid reflux. I gave him his first dose today and the little stinker kept spiting it out while he smiled and laughed at me like it was some kind of game for him not to take it. Tomorrow I will have to try to put it in an ounce of his formula so he will take it and hopefully feel better soon. Enjoy the Halloween pics

Shots : (

Nolan had his 2 month appointment yesterday, Oct 29th. He got his first round of shots which was much harder on me than it was on him. He was a trooper and fell asleep soon after he got them so I didn't think he would have a bad day after all, but I was wrong. As soon as he woke up from his nap he cried and cried, would not eat, was vomiting, had a low grade fever, and I am sure was pretty sore. I felt so bad that there wasn't anything I could do for him. Finally by about 7pm Danny got him to fall asleep for a little nap and was out for the night by 8:30. He slept good like usual and was a whole new baby today. I am glad it didn't last any longer than it did. The rest of his appointment went pretty well though. He will definitely take after his parents in height, which he is at the 50th percentile for, and he will take after his Dad for weight and head circumference which he is at the 25th percentile for. We have a little man on our hands, but perfect to us of course. We were also suggested to try a new formula called Nutramigen, which will hopefully help Nolan with both his acid reflux and help him go to the bathroom easier. So far he does not seem to like it, so I am mixing it with his other formula and am hoping he will drink it and learn to like it so he can become a more comfortable little guy. For the first time today, Nolan sat in his swing for 30 minutes without making a peep and then fell asleep on his own for 2 hours! I am sure this is a normal thing for lots of babies, but not mine so I was very thrilled. I am not sure if it was from trying the new formula or just from him being exhausted from yesterday. I am hoping this formula will do the trick!

Bauer also made a visit to the vet the other day and is on antibiotics for an infected paw. I am sure he will survive! ; ) Tomorrow we will go trick or treating with Nolan and he will be dressed as a pea-in-the-pod. I hope he cooperates for all of our stops. We will post pictures of that too. Happy Halloween!

2 Months Old!!

I can hardly believe that Nolan is already 2 months old! The time has gone so fast, and I can only imagine how fast it will continue to go. Nolan is still doing very well sleeping in his crib and is still a very good sleeper! With all of the flu going around I have been keeping Nolan in more. Even though I have been keeping him in, I think he may have gotten something last week. He is such a smiley boy and for about 3 days I did not see him smile and he didn't really "talk" like he usually does. I knew something was bothering him since I heard a cry I had never heard. It was so sad, but he is all smiles now. For the Gopher series Danny and I went to the game on Saturday night and Nolan got to have his first sleep over with Grandma Barb. We were smart though, and had Bauer stay there as well since he gets up more than Nolan! My mom got lucky because both of our boys slept through the night. I think he is also going through a growth spurt. I cannot believe how much he is eating lately...at least twice as much as he was a week ago! He is a growing boy, so I may as well get used to it. I always hesitate to give him his bottle when he fusses, since it seems like he had just ate, but it is what he wants and he gulps it all up! He also still loves, loves, loves his bath time! Danny and I just laugh at how much fun he has. He splashes and kicks and laughs and smiles. This is usually a very good time for us to "talk" with him, and it is a guaranteed good time. We used to put his bathtub in our kitchen sink, but we have now moved to the actual bathtub since he kicks so much and gets water everywhere!!! There is no stopping him when he is in the tub. We are looking forward to trick or treating with Nolan for his first Halloween. He is going to be a Pea in a Pod. I hope he doesn't mind the outfit and cooperates while we go see grandmas and grandpa and maybe a few other relatives. It should be fun. To update from our last post...Bauer is all better and got to go to daycare today and still not limping! I was just as excited for him to go to daycare so I had one less thing to worry about. He should sleep good tonight! I hope you enjoy the pictures. You can see how jealous Bauer is in the one where Bauer is trying to lay on me while I hold Nolan! He is like this all day. You would think he never got any attention!

6 weeks

Nolan is still as wonderful as ever! On Saturday, Oct 3rd Nolan spent his first night in his crib and slept through the night! He was getting a little big for his bassinet and was starting to sleep really well at night so we decided it was time to send him to his room! Since then he has done well and we are able to keep a good eye on him with our video monitor...it's great. He is very much a morning person like his dad and is so smiley and happy whenever he wakes up. However, he is also a very stubborn boy and fights going to sleep. He is also starting to giggle when we talk and sing to him. I am not sure if he is giggling with us or at us : ) Danny is starting to play a game with him to "see how strong he is". He holds Nolan's hands and let's him stand up on his lap and tells Nolan how strong he is...Nolan just loves it and smiles the whole time. I love to watch! We can't forget about Bauer...not only because we still love him after Nolan, but he also won't let us forget about him! Poor Bauer has been dealing with a sore leg and has been limping for a few weeks. We have brought him to the Vet and are trying some anti-inflammatory and pain meds. If he continues to limp we have to bring him back for x-rays which he would have to be sedated for since he is so hyper. Until then we have to limit his activity, which is extremely hard considering his energy level. He continues to be very good with Nolan...lately he has been very jealous and thinks that when I am not holding Nolan he gets to be on my lap. He is hard to say no too! Nolan also is very intrigued by him and just stares at him when he is around. Our boys are good!

Nolan is a whole 6 weeks already and is changing so much. Time sure flies!

5 weeks!

This was kind of a tough week for Nolan. He was extremely fussy and would hardly let me put him down all day long and would hardly sleep. He fought the bottle and would wake up screaming after I would lay him down. I wasn't sure if he had acid reflux or maybe a milk allergy to his formula. I decided to try a soy formula first to see how he reacted to it. So far he seems to like it and does not fight with me at feedings. For the first time in over a week Nolan finally took good naps yesterday! I am hoping it is more than just a coincidence. I am a little hesitant to write this but since Wednesday Nolan has slept through the night! I thought at first it was because he was up all day and just overly tired, but he slept all night last night even after a good nap day! I hope it continues and I didn't just jinx myself. Hopefully I can get a few things done this week if he continues to nap! Danny went to the lake this weekend to take the dock out, so it was my first weekend alone with Nolan and Bauer. I did however have my mom spend the night just to feel better about the situation, and with the week we had I wanted someone to be there in case of screaming episodes that lasted forever. The night went really well (aside from Nolan deciding not to go to bed until midnight) and I think I will try it on my own next time! I forgot to post a picture from Nolan's baptism....we got all 6 of my grandma Mary's great-grand boys together so I have to share it with everyone...it is pretty priceless.
